Different
Our approach is different from traditional exit paths like private equity or a strategic sale. January Partners will acquire one business and will actively manage it for long-term growth. After pouring years of effort into building your business, we understand the magnitude of your decision to sell. The principal and investors behind January Partners have extensive experience building private companies. If any of the following apply, we may be a fit:
- You want a fair price for your business and diversification of your personal assets
- You want to step out of daily management and pursue other endeavors
- You care about the future of your employees and corporate culture
- You want your business to continue growing
- You want your business to remain independent rather than disappear within a large strategic acquirer
Our Investors
January Partners' investors have invested together for over 30 years in small- and mid-sized private companies. The group consists of 19 current and former CEO/Presidents, 16 Partners at private equity and institutional investment firms and 5 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award winners. They are serious about investing and growing businesses into market leaders. Most of them have been in your shoes and understand what it takes to run a successful business.
Our Principal
After 15 years as general manager, investor, and M&A advisor, Matt Capell formed January Partners because he believes that owning and growing a business is the best and most rewarding way to build wealth in this country. Prior to founding January Partners, he ran the day-to-day operations of a $20 million revenue payment processing and debt collection business, with responsibility for collections, HR, payroll, financial reporting, compliance, and vendor relationships. Previously, he led the sales and business development team for a healthcare benefits software business. He also spent 8+ years in private equity investing and investment banking where he gained substantial investment, M&A and capital raising experience. Matt earned his MBA from Stanford Business School and graduated with distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he double majored in Economics and Psychology and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Diligence Process
We understand that you may not have been through a process like this before. We will listen, explain and help you through the process. We also understand the sensitivity regarding employees, customers, partners and your community. We will conduct our process quickly and confidentially to minimize disruption to your business.
Post-Transaction
After the transaction, we are open to your continued involvement in an advisory, board or other capacity. We will work with you to facilitate a smooth transition of leadership to our principal, with a positive impact on employees, customers and partners. We believe that true value-add comes from active, on-site management post acquisition, not quarterly board meetings with a remote investor.
Flexible Structure
We are open to your retention of a minority equity stake to participate in the continued growth of the business. We will also tailor the transaction to accommodate your estate planning, tax and family needs.
Integrity
We conduct business with the highest integrity and only work with others that do the same. We will always be honest and transparent in our dealings.
